IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity)
An Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract is a type of contract that provides for an indefinite quantity of services or supplies during a fixed period. The government issues task orders or delivery orders against the IDIQ contract as specific needs arise.
IDIQ contracts include a minimum and maximum quantity or dollar value. They are widely used in government procurement because they provide flexibility — the government can order services as needed without running a new competition for each requirement. Major IDIQ vehicles include GSA Schedules, SEWP, CIO-SP3, and Alliant.
Winning an IDIQ contract is just the first step. The real revenue comes from winning individual task orders competed among IDIQ holders. Success requires maintaining a strong task order response capability, building relationships with ordering agencies, and staying attuned to upcoming requirements.
